I didn't know I had a BAV until I was in my mid 50's. Now that I'm approaching 61 it looks like it will be time for a replacement due to increasing shortness of breath. I had my first visit with my surgeon on March 3 and the replacement of my BAV has been scheduled. I'm now trying to fight through the shortness of breath to exercise and getting in better shape for the surgery. I'll be attending a class that the Hospital of the University of Penn offers for heart surgery patients to educate myself some more on what to expect in the hospital and when I get home.
