Hello! My name is Roger. I had mitral valve repair in Oct. I started my cardiac rehab. in June. I was never asked or encouraged to start my rehab. I ask my Cardiologist about starting it to see if my shortness of breath would end when I walk up a flight of stairs.
Not short of breath due to my lungs, but tightness, rapid heartbeat and sometimes dizziness. Since cardiac rehab. monitors me while I exercise I felt much more secure.
My question is as I continue my cardiac rehab. will this eventually go away or is this something I have to live with. As I continue exercising will it completely disappear. I am 62, 5'10", 150-155lbs.
Thank you for any advise .
Roger

Kathy Blank Roger- cardiac rehab did wonders for me- I had mitral valve robotic repair 2.8.17. I had to work really hard to regain my breathing and endurance. My rapid heart rate and dizziness happened a few times but mostly they were occasional hiccups in my recovery. I was lucky to have insurance that provided 12 weeks of rehab. Make sure you try and pinpoint the cause of any symptom- is it just an effect of conditioning/recovery- some symptoms could be warning signs of issues your cardiologist should know about! Keep us posted on your progress!

I had a mitral valve repair and I had tachycardia late in my cardiac rehab.
I did see my cardiologist with no explanation. They tested thyroid and for sleep apnea with no diagnosis, The tachycardia resolved about 9 months post rehab. I would encourage you to see your cardiologist if you continue to have tachycardia.

Roger Hatcher Thank you Kathy and Michael. I will keep you posted as to the progress. Just hoping the symptoms go away.
If not may get a second openion from another cardiologist from a different group.
Thanks again and best wishes.
