Mark Denault I had severe AS and decided on cow value. I did this so I could have a TVAR procedure and not have to be on blood thinner for life. Also the value can/should last 10/15 years. If needed then I can have a second TVAR procedure to replace it. I am 56. Hope this helps.

Rose Madura I was 59 and got a tissue valve large enough to accept a TAVR if need be. It's lasted 7+ years and counting. One of the surgeons told me that it's possible I may never need one. I hope he's right. But I've heard the younger you are, the sooner they wear out. I did not want to take warfarin for various reasons. If I were leaning for mechanical, I would have chosen the On-x valve. It's a tough decision but I always tell people to so their diligent research, make a decision and don't second guess yourself. Just got with it! Best wishes and please keep us posted.

Robert Miller That is a pretty common question. Check out the learning center. Scroll down to the bottom as the top has advertising. Deciding between mechanical or pig/cow valve mostly depends on your age and general health. Cow valve seem to last longer so if you are at the border age, that might be a better option but I never really looked into this. Hopefully they can repair the valve rather than replace it. https://www.heart-valve-surgery.com/learning-center.php

Michael Ponzio Hi I also have aortic stenosis and am scheduled March 19 for surgery. There is also the Ross procedure not sure if you are a candidate for it. It’s where they replace your aortic valve with your pulmonary valve and replace your pulmonary with a tissue valve. I’m hoping for this procedure. Second choice would be tissue valve. Hope this was helpful.

Andrew Dial Great question! I am 35, and had the Ross Procedure 2.5 years ago in Seattle Wa at the University of Washington. I chose the Ross because I did not want to be on blood thinners forever, and the possibility of not needing a 2ns surgery for atleast 20 years is high. Hope this helps :) I am more than willing to answer any questions you have!

Darrell Malone Hi Lisa. I was fortunate to have the Ross procedure like so many here. Ask if you might be a candidate. You may need to have your cardiologist refer you to a surgeon that does it. Always great to have more options. Any questions you can ask. A great information here. Glad you found this site.
