Marie Myers  I had my aortic valve, aortic root and ascending aorta replaced just over 3 months ago. I feel my thinking is pretty much back to normal for my 63 yo brain. I felt my processing speed was a little slow for a month or so. Anxiety pre op was an unpleasant factor for me, and I needed an occasional sleeping pill to get a good night's rest. Be kind to yourself , and best wishes on your heart journey .

sherry weed  I got an aortic valve replacement June 14. I had a very bad time with anxiety for a week leading up to my surgery. The night before, I had a whole body massage in my hotel room, complete with spa music and aromatherapy. Do that, Liliana! Also, once you get to the hospital, they will take such wonderful care of you! If you still feel anxious, tell the nurse. One thing you need to remember is that all that stuff they tell you and make you sign, is for every patient regardless of age or situation and there are some pretty grave situations. How old are you? What are you having done? It's hard for us to wrap our brains around the thought that these doctors are extremely skilled and experienced at all this heart stuff. I want to hear back from you after surgery! You ARE going to be in fantastic hands and it's truly inspiring that these heart surgeons and cardiac nurses love and care for every single one of us! Your life is important to them. You are the rock star!
