Hello group! I had a mitral Valve repair OHS 1/3/23 - everything went well but I have stayed with my heart rate at 102-106 bpm. Anyone experience this? Does the heart rate go down back to normal over time?

Rose Madura I had a different surgery but every time my heart rate went up, I went into Afib. This went on for six weeks. My heart rate is now in the 50's to low 60's. Since it's been 2 months, I give your cardiologist a call to be on the safe side.

Neal Syverson I had a heart rate over 100 for several months after mitral valve repair. Both cardiologists I consulted did not seem too concerned. They said it is not unusual and can easily take a year to return to normal.. almost a year since my surgery and it is now in the 80-90 range. Prior to developing regurgitation it was in the 60-70 range. Not sure it will ever return to that.

Klara Čičić Dear Lazaro, yes, it is common and it should go down in time. I am 5 months post-op and it has gradually started to go down, especially after finishing my cardiac rehab. That helped.

Terry Tannenbaum Mine too was high after surgery. Taking 50mg of Losartin and it's down around 80. The beat feels smooth and perfectly normal. My cardiologist said there's a possibility of weaning me off it after the first year.
