I had my open heart surgery to replace an aortic bicuspid valve on 9.25.18. Surgery went well. I also have FVL and was put on blood thinners post-operative.
Two weeks after surgery I developed a pericardial effusion and was readmitted for a procedure to drain the fluid. I am back on Coumadin for the FVL risk factor. Has anyone else experienced this?

Shannon Gray Hi. I developed a severe pericardial effusion one week after surgery... I went down hill fast and needed up with an additional surgery. Once that cleared up and I was back home, pericarditis occurred ( that is just inflammation, not fluid build up). Lingering effects of the effusion. It’s a hard thing to kick, but I recommend lots of rest, keep that heart rate down, and stay the course of any medications prescribed for the effusion. Good luck and ask away!
