I have a consultation with a surgeon next week regarding my MVP and I was wondering what types of questions I should be asking during the consult.
Thank you as always.

Catie B Hi Keith. What comes to my mind is, the number of these surgeries that he/she performs. The outcomes at the hospital where he does them. What will his surgical approach be? His take on your current condition. Estimated hospital stay. I wrote down a page full before my first consult.

A brilliant question I often receive from patients is, "What should I ask my surgeon when I meet with them?" I've written about this question in the past. H

Barbara Wood I asked the usual questions, then I asked if he foresaw any possible concerns after reviewing my particular case. The surgeon I chose went into a fair amount of detail, convincing me that he had considered the details of my particular surgery & had a game plan. I had had previous radiation to my left side & was concerned about that. I had absolute confidence in him!
Just had an echocardiogram and diagnosed with severe mitral valve prolapse. Cardiologist wants to perform a TEE?
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Jane Higginbotham I had the TEE with heart cath two weeks ago and it was a piece of cake. I'd do it again tomorrow-no pain or anxiety during or afterwards yielding good information. I think the info they get from doing the TEE directs the dr as to what more might need fixing. Fortunately nothing more than aorticvalve stenosis was found.

Lisa Ferguson That's how it all started for me! It's the next test after they find something of concern on the echo. The TEE allows the docs to get really good images and they can provide important info. I've had three and the twilight meds let me forget all about it except for going in and coming out of the test! It's a quick test. Hopefully you will get kind nurses assisting, they can be so great helping you relax on the day.

Barbara Wood Same diagnosis for me- actually mine started as moderate regurgitation with echo & was found to be severe with the tee. Yes, the tee is not bad at all. Your cardiologist may want to do a "watchful waiting " on you ( I did this for about a year- my heart was not enlarged & I was not symptomatic ) or he/ she might recommend surgery soon. I got the greenlight for surgery when I had atrial fibrillation, but it took a year to get to that point.

David Cohen The TTE is just an echo from the inside. It takes the best pictures of your heart for diagnosis. I was a bit frightened before, but as everyone else has said, it is super easy. They load you up on two meds that make you so drowsy nothing bothers you. All I remember is the nurses joking with me before the procedure, and then my wife driving me home.
