Seriously, if they can ask people to quit smoking you’d think they’d be just as concerned that people eat fresh, least processed, and healthiest foods. Instead of letting me have one tiny pat of real butter, they served several little containers of Promise - a fake butter with I think 22 ingredients only 3 of which are NOT chemicals.

Gina Fiorentino So glad to hear you made it through so well! Hooray for successful mitral valve repair and also a wonderful surgeon! I am always surprised how hospitals still serve food with processed sugars and high fructose corn syrup. I wonder if the bigger picture is that it is still very expensive to buy bulk quantity for institutions and find fresh alternatives in individual serving size packs. For example, I noticed that everything I didnt eat that was on my meal plan each day (like the unopened individual serving of sugary cereal, juice from concentrate, and butter packet substitute, etc got tossed- and I felt bad about the waste. However, I did anticipate the limited clean food choices, so I brought my own stash of perishable and non-parishable foodstuffs to supplement (nut butter, Odwalla carrot juice, plain yogurt, corn thins, and dried fruit).
