Two weeks since my surgery. Hard to believe! Surgery went well and Dr. Gerdisch successfully repaired my Mitral valve and replaced my Aortic root. All in all everything went very well except I did lose one whole day. My wife and brother-in-law were trying to convince me that it was Saturday but I knew better. Hahaha...The nurse finally convinced me that they weren't pulling my leg, it really was Saturday! Nothing but praise for Dr. Gerdisch and the whole surgical staff as well as Franciscan St. Francis Health of Indianapolis. Was there for six days and would recommend it to anyone.

My wife and I met with Dr. Gerdisch on March 29th and finalized surgery and how he thought we should proceed. My mitral valve will be repaired and possibly my dilated aorta will be repaired also. That decision will be made at the time of surgery. All in all very impressed with Dr. Gerdisch and ready to get this done. Not nervous about the surgery. Makes me wonder if I'm normal. My kids say I'm not!

Finally got the heart surgeon that I originally wanted. Dr. Marc Gerdisch. He called me on Friday and we talked about my results that he received from my cardiologist and how he thought I should proceed. He was shocked that he wasn't in the network and said he'd have his insurance guy look into it for me. By Sunday he and St. Francis Health Indianapolis were in the network and I promptly changed to him. Nothing against who I had before, Dr. Gerdisch said he was a good surgeon. Anyways, what a relief! I feel so much better about moving forward. This has just reinforced my feelings about choosing Dr. Gerdisch. What a class act!

Jeff Bryan Thank you Meredith! Sometimes insurance companies make no sense. They could never answer why he wasn't in network even though he takes BlueCross. Well thanks to Dr. Gerdisch, he's in now. Go figure. Part of the journey I guess!

Jeff Bryan It's been six month's since my heart surgery and I'm feeling great! Again a big thank you to Dr. Gerdisch and the staff at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, they were first class. Just had a check-up with my family doctor and he said my heart sounded great and I was in good health.
My advice to anyone going through the prospect of valve surgery, do your home work. There are some really great surgeons out there but you have to do your home work. HeartValveSurgery.com is a great resource to find the best. This is where I found Dr. Marc Gerdisch, which I would recommend to anyone, but you have to choose not just for yourself but also your family. Location is important for them as well.
Lastly, peace of mind is important. If you have confidence in your surgeon and his team it will make the whole process so much easier! I had complete confidence in Dr. Gerdisch and his staff so I can truly say that I wasn't nervous at all. I think my wife and kids were way more nervous. Also, my faith in Jesus also helped greatly because I knew I couldn't lose no matter what happened.
So blessings and prayers to all of you getting ready to go through this experience and have faith in your surgeon and more importantly God!
