I’ve been diagnosed with Aortic Valve Stenosis during my routine yearly checkup 07/28/23. Sent for Echocardiogram and Cardiologist appointment. I’ve been advised at that time it is Moderate but have no further details. My 1st Cardiologist appointment in 09/27/23 resulted only in a follow up Cardiologist appointment and Echocardiogram in March 2024. Anxiety a little high and have done quite a bit of research.

Larry Peterson Hi Janet - Welcome to the group! Your cardiologist will probably have you do echocardiograms every six months or so to keep an eye on the aortic valve stenosis. They watched me with echos and CT's for almost 5 years at the moderate stage, then mine advanced to moderate to severe with an aneurysm and they recommended replacement of the aortic valve and repair of the aneurysm. I am 6 weeks post-surgery now and doing very well. So don't let the anxiety take over - you will likely have time to learn all about valve replacements and may not need surgery for some time.

Janet Muzughi-Collier Great information, thank you. I for some reason thought otherwise based on new data on earlier surgery prior to too much calcification. Appreciate your feedback very much.

Larry Peterson Janet, my surgeon recommended my surgery immediately when it met the criteria - slight symptoms (out of breath at unusual times) plus moderate to severe aortic stenosis and an aortic aneurysm measuring 4.8cm. He said let's get this done before you are in full-blown heart failure, and I am very glad I went with his recommendation, as I was much stronger than a lot of the folks I saw in the ICU. But is sounds like you are still at the moderate stenosis stage, so may not meet the criteria for surgery just yet. My advice is just take it in 6 month chunks - they will take lots of pictures and at some point six months from now or six years from now, they will likely recommend surgery.
J Alexander Lassally I hear you on the anxiety pre surgery. I definitely walked that road - so sending best wishes!

Rita Savelis I was watched for 6 years (every 6 months) after moderate stenosis. Your cardiologist is doing the right thing so you'll have to try to trust him/her. Unless some other symtoms come up (sudden shortness of breath), this type of follow-up is protocol. You could be watched even longer. Take care.
