Cathleen Weed Hi Janet, I had an Edwards bovine when I did my OHS and had them use an Edwards valve again for the TAVR. They are made to fit into the other perfectly. Are you just curious about the Medtronic valve or is your local surgeon/hospital using those? I l personally love Edwards Can you go back to Cleveland Clinic for their opinion (or send your test results)? I wouldn't want to switch the valve manufacturer for something like this.

Valerie Allen If it were me, I’d start with Cleveland, whom ever you had previously, and ask about changing valves for a TAVR. My understanding is they push the first valve aside to insert the second valve.
Valerie Allen I’d want to get a second opinion on that.

Janet Coyle Thank you for your feedback. Advent has not made a final decision on valve type yet. I’m looking for info on stroke prevention efforts in second valve surgery. I’ve read about a cerebral protection devise used during surgery. Also, what about anticoagulants and pacemakers after TAVR. CAN ANYONE LET ME KNOW YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THESE. Thank you for your helpful comments. I will let you know if I go back to Cleveland - good advice. Since I’ve retired, the trip is more financially challenging but I believe they are the best.

Cathleen Weed The Sentinel is the most well studied. It takes 10 minutes to install during TAVR and can be removed immediately upon completion of the TAVR. It filters and catches debris versus deflecting. It is put on one side only so sometimes they will add another device on the left side depending on your risk factors. It's the repositioning of the valve that puts a patient most at risk for debris breaking free which is why it's important to find a surgeon who is an expert at TAVR. Getting it right on the first positioning reduces your risk for stroke and paravalvular leaking. I had Dr Raj Makkar at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. He has performed more TAVRs than anyone else in the world. He is also cited in more research references in the world than any other interventional cardiologist.
