I had aortic valve replaced on Aug 27, 2018. I recovered and went to back to work in 4 weeks. My resting heart rate used to be 55-60 bps before surgery, now it is 70-80 bps. Does anyone else have similar experience? Jake

Tom Bartolomei I’m 4 weeks post AVR and like you, my heart rate pre-surgery was in the same range. Now post op, my resting heart rate is 70-75. I’m on a pretty healthy dose of metoprolol as well. On Amiodarone to help address some nuisance bouts of AFIB/irregular heart beats.

Anders Carlos Absolutely. Mine was identical (prior HR was ~55, post is now ~65-70). What I heard from several different surgeons and my cardiologist is that this is fairly common. My BP also jumped up from 115/60 to 130/85 but is gradually getting under control. In digging through the medical literature I can't find a solid reason why (one would think stenosis would lead to a higher HR) but from what I have read it may improve and plateau out over time.
