Hello everyone. In week 3 of recovery. Can you tell me how long you walk every day? One of the discharge papers said (2) 10-minute walks daily, increasing by a minute every day. I walked 21 minutes this morning and 21 minutes this evening (total of 2 miles). But I wonder if that was too much too soon? Chest felt a little "tight" tonight - and I can't quite explain if the tight feeling was just the incision or inside.
Richard Munson Your body will tell you. Sounds like it did.
Pamela Gregory I agree with Richard. Gradual increase is your best bet!

STEPHEN MORRIS I had that "tight" feeling as well. I had open heart, often felt like I needed to stretch my chest. It was hard to explain, but figured it was from the chest bone healing. It was about a year before I felt "normal" again.

John Cook I agree, listen to your body. Gradually increase what you can do. If you get tired or out of breath, slow down or take a pause. At 8-weeks I still occasionally pause for a couple breaths on steep uphills.
I think my paperwork was even more conservative on the amount of time to spent walking than that, not that I listened to it.
At my 3-week mark, I was doing about a mile walk in 30-minutes twice a day.

Hello everyone. Had OHS on Monday to replace aortic valve and repair aneurysm. Currently noticing my "heartbeat" in my head when I put my head back onto a pillow. My wife can actually see the pulsing of my whole head. It is a very odd feeling and I am hyper aware of it now. The nurse just took my pressure and it is just fine. Did anyone else ever experience this?

Grace Mason Welcome to recovery! Your experience is totally normal. I felt like my heart was shaking the whole bed right after surgery for a little while. It will calm or maybe one just gets used to the new normal.

Rose Madura I still hear my heart pounding on a pillow. I muffle it with a handkerchief over my ear. Crazy stuff. But yes, you are super aware of everything after surgery. God bless you on this journey.

Yumiko Ishida I think it’s very normal post surgery. I had to sleep on my recliner with my head elevated after my surgery - otherwise my heartbeat would have kept me awake all night!
