Sherry Bradford The surgeon who did my aortic valve replacement told me i would always need to do prophylactic antibiotics for any dental cleaning or other work. Both my cardiologist and GP have continued to recommend I continue this practice for 13 years now. I take a 3 tab dose 1 hour before any dental care.

Dan Fouratt I had my teeth clean 3 weeks before surgery with no antibiotics, both surgeon. This allowed me to go 7 months (a little long) but it was then 6 months after surgery. That appointment I premedicated and have done every one since.

Geoff Curtis I've always used antibiotics for dental work since original diagnosis. Better safe than sorry

The "wait time" is after the replacement - no dental work or cleanings for 3 months.

Cathleen Weed Did they not give a reason? Could just be a scheduling issue unless they mentioned that specifically. You do have to have a signed dental clearance that there's no active infection or loose/cracked teeth.

John Cook I caught strep throat about 3 weeks before surgery and they didn’t reschedule me. However, the night before my surgery, they bumped me two weeks for someone else’s emergency.

It’s really stressful getting bumped, but it’s better than being the emergency.

John Cook I don’t think they would switch surgeons on you unless your surgeon wasn’t able to do the surgery for some reason. If this was why you were bumped, I would think they would have talked to you about it by now.

i can’t remember how many days it was until they gave me my new date. Somewhere between half a week and a week and it was a 2 week delay over my original date.

I spent as much of those two weeks at home because I didn't want to catch anything else.
