Robert Miller I have heard of young people where a biological valve lasted some 20+ years. But I think that's the exception. According to my surgeons, a biological valve tends to last fewer years in younger patients. Now knowing your history, I would go for a mechanical valve.

Dan Fouratt When I spoke with my surgeon I made the statement that the valve passes 25 years in accelerated testing. The look on his face told me I was delusional. I then stated "I know you said up to 15 years", that brought a smile. I would not count on more then 15 years in your planning purposes.

Ashley Adams Thank you both. It’s a tough one as being on anti coagulants at a young age is not ideal and I guess nor is multiple operations. Perhaps if I went down the biological route first , then in 10-15 years on, the technology may have changed!
