Hi Adam...I recently joined your group on behalf of my husband who underwent surgery for AVR last Thursday. I found your site after searching for support on line for SPOUSES of heart surgery. I needed to know and understand what HE was going through in order for me to take good care of him. At the same time, i realised I was going through a lot of turmoil myself and needed support myself. I did not want to become a burden to friends and family as I felt the focus should be on HIM and not me. I can't seem to find any SPOUSAL support on your site or am i looking in the wrong place. Graham has had a few problems with his HB which led to him having a systoscopy under general anesthetic 5 days after his op which has meant longer in hospital.

Kenny Knox Hello Anne - I hope both you and your husband are doing well. Sometimes the surgery patient has the easier job and more stress is put on the caregivers. You're definitely in a great place with this community. There are plenty of wonderful people here who have had many different experiences and all are eager to share. Anne Bursey Hi Kenny, I rushed to the computer early this morning to check for any 'news' and was so excited to find i'd had a response - and so quick!. Your words of encouragement made me teary-eyed knowing that there WAS someone out there 'listening' to me and actually understanding. I checked with our doctor for support groups in our area (East London, South Africa!) and was told that they tried to get one going but it didn't work which is so sad. I need to write a list of do's and don'ts for families and friends of patients which will ultimately help spouses and partners... thanks again for your response :-)

Clare Auten Anne, I am also a patient but have been here long enough to know that there are a few spouses on board. Also, there are a bunch of us who would ask our spouse a question if you needed us to. Good luck to both you and your husbsnd.

Tammy Pilcher Hi Anne, I'm a patient but like Kenny and Clare said, there are alot of people here that will answer any questions you have. I've seen several spouses post and even a sister of a patient has her own journal. Her name is Tina Fluhrer and she was very devoted in asking questions to be able to help her brother during his surgery and recovery. She was also very encouraging to everyone going through this during that time. You can find her journal by searching her name. Prayers and best wishes!
