About Me (In My Own Words)
My doctor found a heart murmur in November of 2017. I was sent for an Echo and they said my Aortic Valve was stenotic. I saw a cardiologist who said they would check again in one year. During that time he changed hospitals and I was lost in the shuffle. I mentioned to my dr. that I had not seen him for over a year. I was transferred to a new cardiologist, whom I love. She has done an Echo, right and left heart cath and a TEE. My Aortic valve is nearing replacement time and they discovered my Mitral valve is stenotic and leaking. I will meet with the surgical team in May and we will determine a surgery date. I am 5'2 and weigh 268lbs. I have lost 56 lbs since being diagnosed. My husband was injured and nearly died a month ago. He cannot drive until April and my daughter is in college. Since I have do not have any damage to my heart and am doing well they felt I could wait until May. I am scared but know I WILL die if I do not get something done. I am a diabetic but have my A1C under tight control. I am 52 years old. I am ready to get this over with. I know double replacement carries higher risks but I also know it is only about 3%. Due to this site, I have taken great comfort from all the posts and also feel educated and have asked a lot of questions.
