About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with a bicuspid valve and aortic aneurysm in 1998 while in the military. Being a stubborn make I only had it checked out one time in 2008 after the initial diagnosis in 98. I have been in pretty good shape since my military days. My current employer expects me to be in good physical condition as it requires a physical fitness test every other year and has weight standards that is monitored every month. I lifted weights/cardio off and on for about 18 years. Just enough to keep me within the physical fitness standards of my job. About 3 years ago I started feeling my age and started lifting weights 5-6 times a week and doing cardio 2-3 times a week. I was feeling very healthy and was just about in as good of shape as I was in my military days. Somewhat anyways. Then I got covid. I had a struggled with it for about 2 weeks and was extremely tired. I coughed violently for about 1 week. I had a mild continuous cough for about 3 months. I also noticed once I got back to working out I was very tired and had a hard time catching my breath. I knew of my heart condition for about 24 years years now and started to become concerned. I wasn’t sure if covid was causing my symptoms or if it was my heart condition. I decided to get it checked out. After a ct scan, echo, and mri and two different doctors opinions. It was decide that surgery was needed. I am having my aortic valve replaced along with an aneurysm of the aortic root. I was also diagnosed with an enlarged left ventricle and thickening of the myocardium. I have currently not spoken to my surgeon yet. So I’m not sure what’s going on with the thickening of the myocardium or if the enlarged ventricle. My cardiologist hasn’t said much about it. I am hoping surgery will fix those two issues. I have a heart cath scheduled for Sept 29th. I am hoping heart cath goes well and their are no surprise issues. I get to speak to my surgeon on Sept 30th. I have lots of questions.
