About Me (In My Own Words)
Hi! My name is TJ Thompson! I'm a 41 year old male who has undergone 4 open heart surgeries .
History: I was born with Aortic Stenosis.
In 1980, I had my first open heart to repair a leaky aortic valve. The surgeon was Dr. Robert Ebert at UCSF.
In 1991, I had my 2nd open heart where valve was replaced with a Saint Jude 23 mm valve. The surgeon was Dr. Hadelll (sp?) Lax and UCLA.
In 2002, I had my 3rd open heart due to my not taking my warfarin as recommended and I suffered a small TIE, lucky with no neurological damage. The Saint Jude was replaced with a 3d generation pig valve (medtronic). The surgeon was Roger Millar at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah
In 2013, I had my 4th open heart due to my pig valve breaking apart. I went into congestive heart failure. I was rushed to the hospital where I underwent a 16 hour surgery. I was on life support for 7 days and the surgeon kept my chest open during that time. I was once again given a Saint Jude aortic valve with a complete replacement of the aortic root. I have fully recovered thanks to an amazing surgeon and hospital staff. I'm back to running and living a happy healthy life. Dr. David Bull was my surgeon at the University of Utah
