About Me (In My Own Words)
On 2/22/2019 as I was getting stuff together for my 8 yr old's bath, I had a wrenching pain in my chest. I laid back on the bed & just breathed. Since had just finished Chinese takeout for dinner my fist thought was I am having a serious GERD attack! Then I thought it could be my heart.......but denial won out & I stuck with GERD.
Gave my 8 yr old her bath, threw up & spent the weekend resting & went back to work on Monday. I work from home so I rested a lot because it seemed like I was having trouble getting my breath.
After working all week, Friday night, March 1st about midnight, I told my husband we needed to go to ER. I was really not getting my breath.
Our local hospital had a great cardiologist on call that night.
He told the ER team that from the signs & symptoms he was seeing he felt I needed to be moved to a critical care hospital.
Thank goodness he did that!
Within an hour & a half of my arrival I coded, March 2nd, early morning & was put on a vent.
What they found in their testing over the weekend was I had survived a "widow Maker".
I had had an acute M.I. with a papillary muscle rupture & mitral valve regurgitation.
When I came off the vent 10 days later I found out I had had a mitral valve replacement, a CABG & a stent.
Talk about feeling like Alice on the other side of the looking glass
