About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation in my 20's, and was told that I would likely have to replace the valve by age 40. Well, I made it 20 years past that! A couple of years ago I became symptomatic. I went into atrial fibrillation, and started to experience some shortness of breath during aerobic exercise. (especially my passion, cross-country skiing). My cardiologist suggested I consult with a surgeon re: the possibility of repairing/replacing my valve. The surgeon wasn't sure if it could be repaired, but said that would be her first priority when she operated. Luckily, she was able to repair instead of replace, which she felt was the best option for me. So here I am, three weeks later, wondering what the future will hold!
