Now 75, I've been watching my echocardiograms showing increasing stenosis of the aortic valve for a number of years. Finally in January this year, the cardiologist decreed that the time had come for valve replacement. TEE and Angiogram followed, then we waited, not necessarily patiently, for a new cardiac surgery unit to be completed at Calvary Private Hospital in Hobart. Prior to that there was only the one public hospital 'to choose from'. Bureaucracy continued to snarl things up for months, until eventually, in July, it opened, and I got a date.
