Routine aortic tissue valve replacement. No other procedures required ie bypass etc. On completion of surgery my Aorta was ruptured apparently by incorrect removal of the Cross Clamp, I was put in a state of Deep Hypothermic circulatory arrest for 13 mins and received 4 units of blood. The damaged Aorta was repaired but I suffered a stroke. According to the surgeon it was an unforseeable event. I required prolonged recovery. The pericardial wires were not removed but cut and retained. They have become problematic and on occasions are visible by two lumps on my skin causing pain like needles.
