About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello. Age here is 54. I have lived with my condition most of my life. It was thought that I had contracted Rheumatic Fever and the Dr's believed that I had scar tissue from the illness. In later years it is believed to be hereditary. I have been doing pretty well. During a routine physical and a referral to the cardiologist it was made known to me that the valve will need to be replaced sooner than later and could be no more than 2 years out due to a change in my echocardiogram from my prior one 3 years ago. I have been a nervous wreck since I received the news of my last echo test and the mention of surgery. I am very happy to have found this group and these books on Heart Valve replacement. I have stressed my entire adult life and have felt like the only one out there that has this condition. Actually I am fairly sure that some depression and anxiety that I have been experiencing in the last 5 years is due to the leaky valve. It could also be the blood pressure med as well. My Dr. mentioned that the valve surgeries are normally done at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif. I am hoping that I might be able to meet with someone that also has my heart condition here in the SF Bay Area too. Hopefully the knowledge that I will gain by this forum and thru these books that My fears and anxieties will be faced and I will begin to feel more at peace. Thanks! Steve
