About Me (In My Own Words)
First, so very happy to connect with others like me!
I was told I had a heart murmur when I was around 14 years old. Throughout my life doctors told me not to worry about it, and, that many people have them. No one told me it could be a bicupsid aortic valve that may need surgery in my 40's or 50's. So, fast forward to my awesome primary care Dr, Grace Rose, who said in November (I am 52 years old) "your heart murmur is getting louder, let's schedule another ekg in 2018". I was asymptomatic and my last ekg in 2013 was normal. Thank goodness for Dr Rose's intuition, my ekg results showed moderate aortic stenosis - the data showed on the edge of becoming severe. More tests later (I abhored the heart catheterization:-/~) and voila - no blockages or any other issues, so here I am, a week away from getting my aortic valve replaced.
I have a great husband and kids (teens that can't drive & still need me), and a village who is stepping in to help on every level that we are comfortable with. I know I am so very grateful, and that gratefulness makes me focus on looking forward to the positive results of the surgery, and that I will be healthier for me (no more being winded working out or naps....well, maybe a few naps....being a mom can be exhausting! Lol) and for my family. My kids will get the opportunity to help their mom, and each other, this can be a great experience for them. My husband is beyond supportive and loves me & our family, which makes this whole process seem more bearable and actually positive (he has a great sense of humor:-)
