About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve in 2001. At the time it was moderately stenoic with mild regurgitation. In August of 2008 (age 40), things had worsened such that surgery was required. The valve area had decreased to 0.9 cm^2, resulting in a dP across the valve of nearly 60 mmHg. I was amazed at how quickly things had deteriorated from the previous ultrasound less than a year prior.
My surgeon, Dr. John Randolph of the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City and I decided on a Ross Procedure. The surgery was done November 13. It has now been nearly a year and things are going great. In fact, my last echo from a week ago was better than the echo from six months ago, so I am pleased things are headed in the right direction. Lord willing, this may be the last surgery I will need. I feel great and have no limitations. For me this was the right procedure. I would definitely do it again.
