About Me (In My Own Words)
Hi all, I had known for years that I had a 'leaking' aortic valve (also have a 'leaking' mitral valve) but over the last 12months I have been getting chest pain & breathlessness on exertion, mainly on inclines. I was on dialysis for just over 19 years until my transplant 9yrs & 10mths (& 4 days...) so this didn't help with my heart problems. I have seen my heart specialist, had ECG, EKG, Stress Echo, chest x-ray & it has come back that I have to have a Aortic Valve Replacement. I was relieved to know that they are going to do it & see the surgeon on Wednesday 18th Jan. to find out my surgery date. Am feeling rather nervous now about it all but at the same time want it over & done with. I'm sure I'll have some of my questions answered by the surgeon but it's really good to read what goes on from a patients point of view on here, will keep reading!
