About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello, fellow patients! I was COMPLETELY unaware that I had a defective aortic valve until the age of 52! In 2004, I was lucky enough to have a very alert female internist (who was new to me and the practice) stick a stethoscope on my chest. I assured her there was NOTHING wrong with my heart. She heard the murmur, jumped back and immediately sent me for an Echo. I fought her tooth and nail and told her she was crazy. SURE ENOUGH, the test came back that I had aortic stenosis and the beginning of an aneurysm. SHE SAVED MY LIFE. I would have dropped dead 6 years later.
Had a pig valve inserted in 2010 and have been fine ever since. I take care of my pig valve by eating really good, nutritious food and exercising quite a bit. I am now in the process of researching TAVR valves, since my Medtronic valve is 13 years old now. Anyone who can tell me their experience with a TAVR valve--whether they like it or not, pros and cons-- I would be interested in hearing from. THANK YOU for this wonderful community of caring people! God Bless......
