About Me (In My Own Words)
I found out I had moderate mitral valve prolapse with mitral regurgitation about 12 years ago in a routine physical with the Florida Atlantic University Golf Team. Never thought much of it. My general doctor told me to see a Cardiologist who did an echo (echocardiogram) every year for the last 11 years, she did tell me that Id likely need surgery before the age of 60. That was some difficult news to swallow but I was over it in no time. Every year check up and echo were the same, "nothing new, looks good, no changes." Well about 8 months ago, I was shocked from the normal routine when my cardiologist office called me after my routine echo and said "it's gotten worse, let's do one in 6 months to determine if it's rapid deterioration." 2 months ago, I had another echo and it confirmed that I'd need surgery in the next year. That was a really difficult thing to hear. After about a week of mourning the bad news and lots of prayer to God, I was over the initial shock and into the process of trying to find a surgeon. It's been a few weeks and I've narrowed my list of surgeons down to about 5, from a list of 24 around the country. Praise God for the internet resources put in place by Adam Pick. They have made the process much easier
