In early 2000 I suddenly developed a very mild heart murmur. I believe it to be caused from a drug removed from the market because of the heart valve damaged it proved to cause. I took the drug for 5 years before it was removed. Over time there were no significant situations to warrant concern until fall of 2010. I had a heartcath test done in Jan of 2011 which diagnosed Aortic Stenosis with predictions of 3-5 years before surgery would need to be done. At this point I am at 4.5 years. My heart is strong, my arteries clear but the stenosis is accelerating.
I will look for a surgeon in Houston as I have family & friends there to assist after surgery. My quest at this point is to choose the right surgeon and most importantly the right hospital. My concern is really about complications which often arise from heart surgery, ie, blood clots, infections, etc. So I want the best possible hospital with the best reputation for successful recovery.
