About Me (In My Own Words)
I am 58 years old and never had a major problem with my heath until 3-15-09. I was working and felt a major pull in between my shoulderblades and thought it was a pulled muscle. I drove on back home and when i arrived told my wife we need to go to the hospital. The hospital staff informed us what was happening and told us that the staff could not help me. The problem was a dissection of the aorta and no one at the hospital was able to work on it.
I was put on a helicopter and flown to Shands university
hospital in Gainesville, Fl. After 11.5 hours in the OR, they repaired my aorta and replaced my aortic valve with a mechanical St. Judes valve. That has been 1 yr and yesterday I worked for 6 hrs in the yard.
The hardest thing to get used to is the valve clicks and you can hear it. Drove me crazy for about 3 mths but now am doing great. Thanks to staff at Shands for the great job they did. Thank you Sam
