About Me (In My Own Words)
I was admitted as an emergency on 9 April and diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis. Received a replacement aortic valve on 4 May and discharged on 6 May. (Tavi, not open heart surgery).
On my second day in hospital, I developed an itchy area on my left ankle that got weepy but had little attention in hospital. After I got home and removed hospital socks, the area spread rapidly to both legs. It was diagnosed as streptococcal celullitis. I had anti biotics for seven weeks. It looks like it has cleared up now but it was VERY severe.
It is something that can cause endocarditis, may recur. I'm told hospital nurses assumed this was eczema and infection didn't show up in blood tests in preparation for the valve replacement.
Now I can't stop thinking that I actually had the tavi heart valve operation whilst I had (untreated) streptococcal cellulitis. Should I be asking for a second opinion or further tests?
