About Me (In My Own Words)
I've known for more than a decade that I would eventually need to have my bicuspid aortic valve replaced. My cardiologist has been monitoring the slow valve failure over time and more importantly the dilation of my aorta due to the extra stress put on it over the years. Well, the annual echo seems to show more rapid expansion of the aorta in the last year and my doc is saying it might be time to start talking about surgery. He ordered a 2nd echo and a CT Scan to get a better look. I'll get the scan later this week and know much more about my situation. Besides the valve issue I also have coronary artery disease and had a stent put in two years ago. I've been having chest pain and some shortness of breath lately so I figure that's my body's way of telling me the same thing my physician is saying. While I'm still hoping for the best and wishing to avoid the surgery for another year - I figure it's time to start preparing for the inevitable. I had bought Adam's book over a year ago so I knew of this community and knew I wanted to join when I got closer to the surgery. I can see by reading the many journal entries how much it means to valve patients to know they are not alone and to get support from people who have already been through this. Thanks for being there everyone.
Yours in Limbo,
Ron
