About Me (In My Own Words)
I am 50 years old and was told at the age of 30 that I had a mitral valve prolapse, also called a murmur. Over the years I have had an EKG done with my physical and until this year no one ever seemed very concerned. After moving to Raleigh, NC for a new job and finding a new doctor and she suggested that I go to a cardiologist to have the murmur looked at.
My cardiologist started running tests and informed me that the heart condition had gotten worse and that she felt I need to see a surgeon to discuss the options of repairing or replacing the valve.
Once I saw the surgeon he said he felt very confident that the valve can be repaired and that I was an excellent candidate for robotic minimally invasive surgery.
I am now scheduled to have the procedure on May 7, 2012.
