About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm not sure of the date above, but I am sure I was in the 7th grade, so If I ever get the exact date I will change it. I have called the hospital and asked for the file, but I was told it was destroyed. That I do not understand!
I had memories as a very young child (1year old) of standing in an x-ray machine, but hose memories never surfaced until I was reminded of my heart disease in 1972. I was a very active and very talented sports player. I was one of this best hard ball pitchers in my age group and a developing quarterback. In the 7th grade I tried out for junior varsity football team and I landed the first string quarterback position. We were put through spring training and a few weeks before our first game we were given a physical. The doctor who gave us the physical detected a heart murmur in my heart then contacted my mother and told her I could not play until a heart specialist check me out and that I could paly only if he approved it. My mother did some research on Cardiologists and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Michael DeBakey of the Methodist Hospital in Houston Texas. I was told at the time he was considered the top Heart Surgeon in the world. They did some test on me including an Angiogram. The Angiogram is what determined my heart had not improved since birth and I was scheduled for surgery with in weeks. There went my sports ambitions! (I'll type more later, I need to go for now).
