About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello! I'm a BAV patient with severe AR, and had surgery on Monday, December 9. Dr Morris Brown at Piedmont Heart Institute (Atlanta, GA) performed the operation. After a lot of debate, I went with an Inspiris valve and Konect Resilia aortic valve conduit.
The immediate recovery was difficult. I’m difficult to intubate, and I ended up be on the ventilator for at least 24 hours. When I came to, I was very bloated and had early signs of pneumonia. After 2 days in the ICU, I transferred to the main floor, and was able to start walking on the second day post-op. Aggressive diuresis was sufficient to remove the excess fluid. After a week in the hospital, I was discharged on Monday, December 16.
I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to use Piedmont if that’s convenient to you. The care I received was phenomenal.
