About Me (In My Own Words)
Ray was a healthy 66 year-old radiologist until the beginning of 2011. He felt great as he did a lot of exercise walking all over in Buenos Aires during December. The next 4-6 weeks he noticed to have less endurance than usual and by chance a loud murmur discovered by his wife, a physician. This led to an Echocardiogram and a diagnosis of a severe mitral valve regurgitation was confirmed. Being a physician, Ray knew what he had to do. There is no other way but to have it repaired. He wants to have it repaired and not replaced. He does not want to have to take Coumadin for the rest of his life due to the mechanical valve. In the process of preparation for the valve surgery, he underwent a cardiac angiogram to assess his coronaries. Unfortunately for Ray, there was a complication of the angiogram. The right emoral artery\'s wall was torn accidentally during the procedure and this created an obstruction by a flap. This led to an urgent operation to repair the blood vessel to allow blood flow down his right leg. Ray recovered from this ordeal and now is waiting for the mitral valve repair surgery.
