About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect called Ebstein's Anomaly in 1999. My tricuspid valve did not grow in properly but it functioned adequately for 41 years, but it gradually broke down until it was regurgitating badly and needed repair or replacement. My first surgery was on July 7, 2000 by Gordon Danielson, now retired, which resulted in implantation of a CE porcine valve since my native valve couldn't be repaired. That valve lasted about 14 years so I lived with less blood flow for the past 3 years but finally had a new St. Judes porcine valve implanted on May 18th, 2017. I am recovering again which is not really fun but I got through it in 2000 and I will again. I am looking forward to cycling the 204 miles from Seattle to Portland (STP) again in 2018 like I did in 2009, 2012 and 2014!
