About Me (In My Own Words)
I have severe stenosis in both Aortic & Mitro Valves.
The TVAR was aborted a few minutes shy of procedure start! Minutes before they had taken some tests and ultrasound and decided it was too risky.
There were a few issues.
1.) size was not ideal with the
parameters of TAVR.
2.) possibly too much risk with anesthesia and being intubated.
Mainly Dr. Forrest thought it too high a chance I would not make it off the table! These decisions are rare and he & I were both disappointed and saddened but, it was clear we and his colleges were making the correct decision decision to abort.
I had a conference with his colleague Dr. V. a cardio thoracic specialist. He expressed my only other choice was open heart surgery. Extremely risky and he explained the surgery. He said it would have a 20% to 25% success rate. (Originally Dr. Forrest had talked about this option but we decided on the TVAR. Which as stated above had to be aborted.)
So I'm really left with no other choice. I have always be happy with Yale New Haven Hospital and would like to stay with them. However I will be getting a second opinion at Hartford Hospital. I have a doctor in mind and hear they also have a great program.
Any advise you can give on another facility and doctor who be greatly appreciated. I am assuming I will need to have surgery mid January 2024 - February 2024.
