About Me (In My Own Words)
I am 52 years old. I have been healthy my whole life until Jan 11-2011.
I Could not breath and had lost a lot of weight over the Christmas and New Years Holidays.
I had to have my Aortic Valve replaced.
It really caught me off guard. I really thought that I was going to die the day the ER. doctor told me that I needed to have open heart surgery right away.
I had always been real active in sports and bike riding etc... I spent 4 years in the Marine Corp and reserves. I had always been real healthy up to this point in my life.
My father passed away with major heart problems at a real young age. He was 42 when he had his first heart attack, then another at 49. Then his last and final one was at age 56. This one took his life.
I did know that there was problems in my family history. But I thought that I was fine, Because I had never had any problems before.
The ER. doctor told me that there is a heart mumur< so that scared me right from the beginning. He did a EKG. right then, As he was reading the results he said out loud " you have a bad heart valve"
WOW. I felt like someone had hit me right in the stomach as I felt my eyes starting to tear up. I tried to get the words out " What does that mean?"
But the tears rolled down my face.
He then put his hand on my shoulder and said "You need to have open heart surgery right away Maybe even tonight".
TOO BE CONTINUED.
