About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed 40 years ago with a leaky aortic valve which has slowly graduated from mild to mild to moderate and now moderate (2-3/4). I also have a mildly dilated aorta (4.1mm). Originally they thought I had a bicuspid aortic valve but recent echos indicate it is definitely tricuspid. I am now 61 and my cardiologist says I have a 50/50 chance of needing a replacement valve by the time I’m 75. In the interim I’m keeping very active playing competitive tennis and getting my 15000 steps a day. Amazingly based on stress echo results my exercise tolerance is markedly better than it was 10 years ago. Like everyone on this great site, it is difficult playing the waiting game, but I value and take confidence from the many people who have shared their journey in dealing with valvular heart disease.
