About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve, but this was not discovered until in my twenties, when I had a heart sonogram due to heart murmur. I did not start getting monitored on a regular basis until my late 30's when I started going to annual cardiology visits and started having annual sonograms. About 8 years ago I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis but it was moderate at the time, and I was told by my cardiologist that at some point in the future I would have to heart valve replacement. I had my annual visit with my cardiologist back in June and he advised me that it was time for the heart valve replacement. I underwent heart catheritization to check for any other issues with my heart and to confirm the need. My surgeon reviewed my heart sonogram and the results of the catheritization and confirmed that indeed I do need a heart valve replacement due to sever aortic stenosis. I do not have the symptoms they state they most patients have with this level of stenosis but I want to do what is best for my health while I still can. I am having the valve replacement and have chosen the mechanical valve
