About Me (In My Own Words)
I am nearly 6 weeks post surgery and find it hard to believe how well/fast I am recovering! I am 60 years old and had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve. I was honestly more worried about the recovery than the actual surgery (I just really trust Dr. Lehr and the team at Swedish. I am also fit and in good health otherwise). I was able to leave the hospital 3 days post surgery, and took nothing for pain after leaving other than extra-strength Tylenol. My sternum and scar are at times 'uncomfortable' but I have rarely been in any real pain. I am back to walking 10,000 steps per day and finding it hard not to resume my normal weight-bearing activities before I should. I don't know whether my story is typical or not, but I certainly feel blessed to be on the other side of surgery and feeling really good!
