About Me (In My Own Words)
I am 43 yr old African American female. Who has always been pretty much healthy all my life. This was very unexpected I went to urgent care was dx with pneumonia, also advised I had a heart murmur. Never heard of this before so I found myself a PCP and she advised me to go to cardiologist this was end of Jan 2024 he wanted me to have an Angiogram so they could rule out Blockage. Next I was advised that I had severe mitral regurgitation only 30% of my blood was flowing the correct way. I was then scheduled for open heart surgery. I had to make a decision if I wanted a pig valve or mechanical. Although I thought I would still bring a child in this world someday. I went with mechanical. I couldn't imagine going through surgery again in 10 years. My surgery was successful 🙏 and now I'm on a road to recovery.
