About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello -
I am a 36 yr old healthy male. I was diagnosed with a endocarditus back in April 2014. I was on IV antibiotics for 4 weeks. After the antibiotics and the infection was gone I was given a TEE and Stress Test. It is determined that I will need mitral valve repair(hope so) or replacement. I am currently asymptonmatic and feel great. But as I've read (internet is scary sometimes) that the symptons can happen quickly. I have scheduled a surgery for September 2nd. The surgeon is pretty confident he can repair my valve, but obviously there is the "in the back of mind" if he has to use a mechanical valve how will it effect my life? Like I said...I'm 36....still have alot of life to live. I am married, but no kids of my own. I'd like to have children but I also don't want to have to tell them someday, I have a valve replacement and probably wont' make it until you are grown up. Anytime I say the words "heart surgery" to friends and co-workers they gave me that glare like....wow, you are screwed, or you might not live to 40. Its probably just in my head. Considering at 36 this shouldn't be happening to me.
