About Me (In My Own Words)
I have a bicuspid aortic valve. My stenosis and blood flow velocity have worsened. I am told that the time for surgery has come. I am awaiting an angiogram and other tests to be scheduled. A valve committee will review and recommend either a tissue valve or mechanical replacement. Since I am just 56 and otherwise very healthy, I am not sure that the tissue valve is a good option for me. If the mechanical valve is the route we go, I have much concern over a lifetime of blood thinners. I am reaching out in hopes of better understanding my options.
