About Me (In My Own Words)
I’m from the UK. I have a unicuspid aortic valve with severe regurgitation, a dilatated aortic root, aorta and left ventricle.
I was born with a deformed aortic valve defect in 1974. Detected at birth, so monitored all my life more or less. At 8 years was struggling to walk and chest pains, my aortic valve was too narrow so the widened it, op was open heart surgery in 1982.I was told one day I may need a valve replacement when fully grown. At twelve years they noted I had a valve leak, I think said it was ~25%. Monitored annually until I was about 19-20 years old. I got lost from the system then, and not seen for about ten years. I’d moved away as well, and so went to new GP and mentioned I used to be seen for heart valve, should I be seen again. So again have had an annual echo more or less. Anyway, all childhood records are lost. Now I’m 48. The last three years I’ve been wheezing, fatigued, palpitations, dizziness etc. trying to get noticed during covid times has been hard. But anyway, I guy diagnosed in a July 2022 that my aortic valve now have severe regurgitation, I gave a dilatated root, ascending aorta and left ventricle. I now on the wait list for AVR, which is expected in 2023.
