About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm a 47-yr old male, not female, recovering from an aortic dissection. I truly don't remember my story, as I had no previous issues with my heart or valves, and quite frankly, I don't rember much of what happened. I was at work, and (as per my boss) I suddenly clutched my chest in pain. An ambulance was called, and after several readings, ,my blood pressure was dropping and I was rushed to the hospital. Cat scan showed my aorta had dissected and was rushed to surgery. After 9 1/2 hours of surgery, in which they repaired aortic arch, both carotid arteries, both coronary arteries, replaced aortic valve and kept me alive(surgeon told wife I was actively trying to die), I was sent to CICU. During the night, I suffered 4 strokes, and initially was completely paralyzed on left side. Within days, I regained movement on left side, and only thing I suffer with is slight vision loss on left side. A few days later, I was unable to breathe on my own, so I had to be tubed and also had a feeding tube installed and put in a comatose state. A week later, I came out of coma and remained in CICU for another 1 1/2 weeks, before being discharged to rehab center.
