About Me (In My Own Words)
40 years ago I received radiation therapy for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. For the past 12 years I have been followed for my gradually worsening aortic stenosis. This year, with the stenosis severe to critical, I reviewed my options with my interventional cardiologist Joe Kozina and cardiac surgeon Allen Morris and elected to go with a TAVR. On 3/21/2020 I had a Sapien3 valve placed successfully at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento and was discharged home the following afternoon. It was performed under sedation (MAC) anesthesia and I was ambulating the halls 8 hours after the procedure. Grateful for the rapid advances in technology and the combination of expertise and compassion I experienced with my team of physicians, nurses, techs and other providers, especially in this time of stress and demands that all in healthcare are experiencing. I expect to be back on the OR in less than a week taking care of my own patients (I am an anesthesiologist).
