About Me (In My Own Words)
In Oct of 2007 I received a pre op exam in preparation for shoulder surgery (torn rotator cuff). During the exam the doctor said I had a heart murmur. I was totally taken back by this since I was 59 years old and never been told that before in any of my yearly check ups. I was put thru all the tests, EKG, Eco, etc and was revered to Dr. Cunningham in Sebastopol, Ca. When the doctor explained that I had severe Aortic Stenosis (valve area between 1.0- .9) and that I would need heart surgery, I just about fell to the floor. My shoulder surgery was cancelled.
It has now been 2+ years since my diagnosis and there has been no change in my condition. I had my shoulder surgery in July of ’09 and all went great, I feel wonderful. I see my heart doc every 3 months and get an ECO every 6 months. I’m “on hold” and waiting for the day. I read everything Adam Pick puts out. All the stories from all the patients and doctors really help me deal with my condition……just hanging in there for now!
